Weather on Wear OS without Google Weather
If the weather on your watch face has gone blank, you're not alone. Here's what changed and how to get it back.
What happened to Google's weather app
- In September 2025 Google said its Weather app for Wear OS can't be installed on watches running Wear OS 6, except Pixel Watches, which moved to Pixel Weather. If you had it already, it keeps working until it doesn't.
- In December 2025 owners of the first Pixel Watch, the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro and TicWatch models stuck on Wear OS 4 reported that it had stopped updating.
- It only ever followed your phone's or watch's GPS, with no way to choose a city.
What to use instead
You need an app that supplies weather complications, the small slots on your watch face, so any face can show it. Things worth checking:
- Complication types: short text, long text, ranged value (a ring) and small image cover nearly every face.
- Manual location: useful for watches without GPS, or to keep an eye on home.
- Offline behaviour: does it keep a few hours of forecast, or go blank the moment you lose signal?
- Price model: some weather apps moved to monthly subscriptions in 2026. A one-off price is often fairer for a watch app.
Mizzle
Mizzle is our answer: temperature and rain complications free, with high/low, UV, wind and a 6-hour tile for a single £1.99 payment. It works on Wear OS 3 and later, uses your watch's location or any city you choose, and keeps about two days of hourly forecast on the watch. Data comes from MET Norway, Norway's national weather service, which publishes forecasts for the whole world.
Other options
- Your watch maker's own weather app, if it has one (Samsung Weather on Galaxy Watch, for example).
- Weather apps from big providers that include a watch add-on, usually alongside a phone app.
- Asking Gemini or Google Assistant on the watch, which works without any complication.
