GuitarTuna alternatives without a subscription
GuitarTuna is the best-known tuner app, with over 100 million installs on Google Play. Its basic guitar tuner is free, but its chromatic tuner and many extras sit behind a subscription, which Play reviewers in October 2026 put at "$7 a month / $30 a year". A tuner is a small, finished tool, so here's what to use if you'd rather not subscribe.
What a good tuner needs
- Chromatic mode. For any instrument the app doesn't list, for voice, and for checking intonation up the neck.
- Low notes that don't flicker. Bass E is 41 Hz and a 5-string's low B is 31 Hz. Many phone tuners struggle there; a good one listens a little longer on low notes.
- Your instruments. Ukulele, violin family, mandolin and banjo, not just guitar.
- No ads mid-tune, and no account to make.
Free and one-off options on Android
- Pegbox Tuner (ours): free tuner for 13 instruments plus chromatic, with no ads. One payment unlocks alternate and custom tunings, A4 calibration and a metronome. More about Pegbox.
- Fender Tuner: free from Fender, with guitar, bass and ukulele tunings.
- LikeTones Tuner: a well-rated free chromatic tuner with a large tuning list.
Cancelling GuitarTuna
If you subscribed through Google Play, cancel in the Play Store app: tap your profile picture, then Payments & subscriptions, Subscriptions, GuitarTuna, Cancel. Uninstalling the app doesn't cancel it.
